I have ran gaming servers in the past. I know that gaming servers are able to block certian IP's from accessing the server. You should look up country codes of out side the US and ad them to a spectrum ban list from view the site.

oh and also for all you sellers.....u can do like I did and scam the scammers.....lead them on like you are willing to sell to them...let them invest their time what little money it takes and last minute when it is your turn to do your part.....say to them " SUCKER " |

Hi, thanks for your suggestion. The latest Nigerian emails from yesterday, 8/15, were actually from U.S. IP addresses. There's really no way to completely avoid these people. We have a number of hurdles in place for them to have to jump, but it's a cat and mouse game. The best we can offer is just to email users who are contacted by them as we are doing no. But thanks again for the suggestion.

even though that the user's email ip was of US origion. That only means that they were using a mail service such as msn or yahoo to email. This doesn't mean that they are located in the US.
Cause If they are located in the US, then at least they can be prosecuted with in the law and the US boundries.
Trust me on this. If you ban country codes you will notice 90% of fraudulent sellers and buyers will dissapear.
Reason is that any country code that is banned will not be able to view the website " classifiedomaha.com "
If you do not know how to do this, (which don't take offense, doesn't sound like you have experienced this before) contact your server provider and ask them to ban all ip's beside the US ip's. |

Ive discussed this before with my ISP. The main problem is finding a source to provide that data. I could block IPs coming in code based on ranges, but Id need to be able to do a lookup, which also brings the issue of performance also. Even if you block the IP ranges of those counties, they can still use proxies to bypass the block. And where to retrieve that data. There are subscription services, but this is a free site so funding is also an issue. Thanks for the suggestions though. |

I have found a source that provides IP ranges by country for free in a text file format. I've implemented functionality to do a lookup on the user's IP and send them to a dead end if they are from a non-US IP. Hopefully this will stop a lot of the scammers and won't be a problem for legitimate users. Cross your fingers :) |
